How to Share Your Testimony
The five parts of a clear testimony are as follows: life before Jesus, encounter with Jesus, life with Jesus, scripture, and a challenge/question. Limit yourself to three sentences per section (five minutes total).
Don’t use “Christian words.” Unchurched people will not understand “Christian-ese.”
“And they have defeated him by the blood of the Lamb and by their testimony.” (Revelation 12:11 NLT)
Life Before Jesus
Share details from your life before your encounter with Jesus. Share any relevant fears, problems, or sins. Do not overemphasize life before Jesus. We want to focus on our new life, not the old.
Encounter With Jesus
Share details of your encounter with Jesus. How did it happen? What was it like? What made it special or memorable? This could be a specific moment, but it could also be a process.
Life With Jesus
How did your life change after you had an encounter with Jesus? How is your life different after you put your faith in Him? How has He changed you? If you shared any fears, problems, or sins before, share how Jesus has ministered to you in that area.
Scripture
Find a verse that is related to your story and share it. When our testimonies are combined with God’s Word, it adds power and authority.
Challenge/Question
What God does in us, He wants to do through us. Help people connect your story to their story. Give a challenge or ask a question that will help people respond and relate to your testimony.
